Before I became a race director, I never really thought about what went into putting on a race or large event. But after directing several races from Six Days to 5K, I have developed a deep understanding of what it means to commit to directing a race.  This blog (and now book) is a chance to give the everyday athlete a chance to get a behind the scenes look at how races are made and what those who plan and execute them go through.

This blog started following the making of the Destin Marathon and Half Marathon. Building a first-class, internationally respected marathon from the ground up is no small undertaking and there was certainly no guarantee of success. We have transitioned the blog to a race director specific affair to help potential race directors put on outstanding events. And finally in 2026, using this blog, countless race files, and email- The Race Director's Playbook e-book was born.
